|« From Cape Town to Jo'burg in 14 days; from the roaring breakers at the Cape of Good Hope to the sounds of the south african wilderness; face to face with lions, leopards and elephants: this is only a brief summary of my journey through South Africa from 17th September to 1st October 1997 and the impressions you will get from the photos and notes on this site.
When I decided to visit South Africa I had been backpacking in Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand and the Cook Islands before, but I had never done an organized tour so far. Concerning South Africa, because of the social conflicts in the country I did not feel comfortable with backpacking on the one hand, but on the other hand I did not want to do one of those typical overcrowded touristic tours with an overpacked schedule either. Offering tours and safaris exclusively for 18 to 35 year olds, featuring small groups and a decent schedule, Contiki had the perfect solution for that problem. I booked on the South Africa Experience tour from Cape Town to Jo'burg and off I was exploring South Africa.
All photos of my journey are photographed on KODAK ELITE II 100 film for color slides using a NIKON F70 SLR camera with a NIKKOR 28-80mm (1:3.5-5.6D) and a SIGMA 100-300mm (1:4.5-6.7D) lens.
Exclusively for this site I have arranged a MIDI version of one of South Africa's most popular songs and one of the favourites on tour: "Shosholoza". Also, for real safari feeling the wildlife viewing pages feature a MIDI version of Ennio Morricone's famous composition "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Use the background music controls at the bottom of each page to get the full audiovisual experience!
The long and the short of it: enjoy exploring my South Africa Experience Photo Site! »
